At Security Blue Team (SBT), our mission to deliver world-class cybersecurity training really comes alive through folks like Millie Gilham, our Head of Product. She's got this great way of mixing big-picture thinking with a real care for the people doing our training, and that makes her a real cornerstone in our product team. If you've already crossed paths with Millie through our platforms or maybe some community events, here's a closer peek at what makes her tick and how she's pushing SBT forward in cybersecurity training.
What stands out about Millie is her energy, her fresh take on problem-solving, and how she always puts inclusivity front and center. Let's get into her story and see why she's such an important piece of the puzzle in helping our learners build real skills in cybersecurity.
A Dynamic Role at the Helm of Product
Millie came on board with SBT full-time back in May 2025 as a Product Manager, and it wasn't long before she stepped up to Head of Product – a sure sign of her drive and clear vision. "I lead the product department, which is made up of two closely connected teams: Product Strategy & Delivery and Student Support," she explains. Her job covers everything from charting out the big strategic direction for our platforms to getting her hands dirty with things like roadmaps and deciding what gets prioritized first. "I’m responsible for setting the vision and strategy for all our products and platforms, ensuring they deliver measurable value to both our students and the business," she says.
On top of all that, Millie also heads up our Social Employee Resource Group (ERG), putting together things like our annual Global Connect, which is basically our big company-wide get-together where employees mix work with some fun. It's a great example of how she's all about building that sense of community within the company.
Delivering Exceptional Cybersecurity Training
When Millie started, she pretty much built the product department from scratch, and she's shaped how we do things with a real emphasis on quality right from the get-go. "We focus on actively listening to our students, colleagues, and the market," she says, pulling in feedback, analytics, and what's trending in the industry to guide what we build. Her Strategy & Delivery team turns those insights into platforms that are easy to use and really make a difference, while the Student Support side makes sure learners get the help they need.
A Passion for Neurodiversity and Mental Health
Millie doesn't hold back when it comes to talking about neurodiversity, and it's because she's lived it. "Being neurodivergent has shown me that differences in thinking and processing can bring both challenges and incredible strengths," she says, pointing out how it boosts things like creativity and spotting those hidden opportunities.
Millie's experience with ADHD gives her a unique angle: "It has helped me think differently, adapt quickly, and approach challenges with fresh perspectives," she shares. It's this mix of creative sparks, solid data, and real empathy that keeps Millie's approach fresh.
She's all about sharing her story to inspire others: "When people see that someone like them can succeed, lead, and make an impact, it can be empowering."
A Day in Millie’s World
There's no such thing as a "typical" day for Millie; it's all about that variety keeping things interesting. One day she might be knee-deep in product discovery, sorting priorities, or digging through feedback to tweak our platforms. The next, it's more about the strategic side, like sketching out roadmaps, green-lighting new ideas, or teaming up across the company to maximize impact.
"Watching individuals grow, take ownership of projects, and thrive in their roles is one of the most fulfilling parts of my job," she says. And then there's her ERG work sprinkled in, like chatting on Slack or hopping on calls to bounce ideas around for upcoming events. "It’s demanding, but incredibly rewarding to see ideas go from concept to real-life effect," she reflects.
From IT to Product Leadership
Millie's path kicked off in IT during her uni placement year, and from there she moved into full-time spots in IT support, service delivery, brand protection, and digital risk management. "Those experiences naturally steered me towards product management," she explains, where she could pull together her tech background with a love for creating solutions that hit the sweet spot between user needs and business goals.
It's that foundation that lets her lead our product team with both smart strategy and down-to-earth practicality.
Why Security Blue Team?
What pulled Millie to SBT was the mission at its core: making cybersecurity something anyone can dive into and master. "I’ve always been genuinely interested in it, both personally and professionally," she says, drawing from her earlier gigs where she worked hand-in-hand with cybersecurity teams.
The vibe here was the cherry on top: "SBT is sociable, supportive, and caring, with a real sense of community."
The Joy of Impact
At the end of the day, what Millie loves most is seeing the real difference her work makes. "Knowing that our work helps someone land their first role in cybersecurity, earn a new certification, or feel more confident in their skills is incredibly fulfilling," she says.
Teaming up with the sharp, motivated folks in her teams and across the wider business, turns even the biggest challenges into something energizing, highlighting the collaborative spirit that really defines SBT.
Looking to the Future
For SBT, Millie sees us stepping up as "the undisputed leader in practical, hands-on cybersecurity training," pushing into fresh areas and making our platforms even easier for everyone to use.
On a personal note, she's keen on growing as a leader and lifting up others, particularly women and neurodivergent people in the field. "I aim to be a mentor and advocate, showing that diverse thinking and different ways of approaching problems are strengths in this industry," she says.
Life Beyond the Office
When she's not at work, Millie's often out chasing her lively border collie, Lilo, along some trails, or sinking into a true crime doc, getting lost in video games, or exploring new spots around the world. "I love discovering new countries, revisiting places I’ve fallen in love with, and catching up with friends, especially over good food," she shares with enthusiasm.
From Penguins to Product
Back when she was a kid, Millie pictured herself as a zookeeper, especially tending to the penguins. She'd spend hours just watching them at the zoo with her grandad. "I still spend my days watching, learning, and caring for things I am passionate about, just in the world of cybersecurity products and my dog instead of penguins," she reflects.
It's a fun reminder of how that early sense of wonder still drives what she does today.
