Meet Nathan: One of SBT’s IT Support & Systems Technicians Keeping Things Running Smoothly
At Security Blue Team (SBT), delivering high-quality cybersecurity training starts with rock-solid internal systems that allow everyone else to do their best work. In this Faces of SBT feature, we’re shining a spotlight on Nathan Davis, one of our IT Support & Systems Technicians, whose reliable, hands-on support and thoughtful approach help keep the company moving without disruption.
For those who already rely on him for quick fixes or smooth setups, this is a chance to see a bit more of the person working behind the scenes. Whether you’re a colleague who’s appreciated a fast resolution or you’re simply curious about the people powering SBT, here’s Nathan in his own words.
Nathan: Turning Tech Challenges into Smooth Experiences
Nathan describes his role as foundational to the wider team’s success:
“My role is to ensure the company’s internal technology runs reliably, securely, and efficiently, allowing the rest of the business to focus on delivering value to our customers.”
When technical issues arise, he focuses on clarity and empathy. As he explains, “Technical issues are often blockers that vary in severity and can be stressful for the people affected.” His approach is to show understanding, communicate clearly, and avoid unnecessary technical jargon when explaining issues or solutions.
He believes in gathering all relevant information before executing a plan and is clear about one core principle: “I’m a firm believer that honesty is always the best approach.” That means being transparent about what’s known, what isn’t, and the possible outcomes, so no one feels neglected or confused by overly technical language or hidden details.
A Day in the Life of IT at SBT
Day to day, the role is varied and hands-on. Nathan handles internal support requests, designs and implements policies that influence device behaviour, and ensures applications are running effectively across the business.
He is also responsible for clearly communicating any outages or issues and works closely with colleagues across SBT to resolve technical problems and continually improve the end-user experience. As he puts it:
“On a day-to-day basis, I handle internal support requests, design and implement policies that influence device behaviour, and ensure applications are running effectively. I’m also responsible for communicating any outages or issues clearly across the business. I work closely with individuals across SBT to resolve technical problems and continually improve the end-user experience whether this be from onboarding and how your laptop is set up, packaging applications and deploying them to all staff devices. No two days are the same, and the variety of challenges is what makes the role unique and rewarding.”
That variety is something he genuinely enjoys.
Why SBT?
When asked what drew him to Security Blue Team, Nathan highlights both the product and the people.
“The quality of the courses and services SBT provides really stood out to me. I was also drawn in by the welcoming and supportive atmosphere throughout the interview process, as well as the clear value my role brings to the business.”
He also recognises the responsibility that comes with being the first dedicated IT engineer at SBT:
“As I am the first IT engineer at SBT, I am setting the example for what this role can do within SBT and its importance.”
From PE Teaching Dreams to IT
Nathan’s career path didn’t begin in IT.
“I originally went to University to become a PE Teacher. After a career pivot, I took an apprenticeship in IT. Having an interest with technology.”
He credits much of his early development to mentorship:
“I was very fortunate to learn from a great mentor Daniel who advanced me through my apprenticeship and IT career, with lots of patience I'm sure!”
Now six years into his IT career, primarily working across Cyber Security and Infrastructure, that early patience has shaped how he works today. He explains that those experiences have inspired him “to push myself to apply a level of security within my role and always help people with the same patience I was once shown when I first started my IT journey.”
What He Enjoys Most
For Nathan, it ultimately comes down to people.
“The people. The supportive team around me makes the role incredibly enjoyable. As the first IT engineer at SBT, I’m also in a position to set the standard for how IT support is delivered, which is something I take pride in.”
Looking ahead, he has clear ambitions:
“I want to manage my own team eventually and delve into Cyber Security (Blue Team ironically) as great foundational security is key but educating users on staying safe online both personal and for work is key.”
Outside of Work
Balance matters outside the office too.
“Walking Peanut (my dog) we recently completed a challenge, going out for new foods and experiences with my partner, gaming with my friends and going to the gym. When I'm not doing any of those, I'm a TV person always with some form of show or film on.”

And that childhood inspiration?
“I was heavily inspired by Spider-Man, although he wasn't the strongest hero or the one who stood out the most, he was the most impactful when it mattered and always had time for all severities of issues, which I think is what drove me to be so open and helpful with others growing up and within my role to this day.”
Nathan’s Role Within SBT
Nathan is a key part of SBT’s growing operations team, working alongside colleagues across the business to keep devices secure, applications running smoothly, and people productive. As the first dedicated IT engineer, he’s not only solving today’s challenges but also building the foundations for how support scales as SBT continues to grow.
His patient, transparent approach and focus on real user experience make a tangible difference in how smoothly the wider team can deliver cybersecurity training and services. He brings reliability without ego, and that quiet dependability reflects the supportive culture that keeps SBT moving forward.
