Reece: Steering the Sales Ship with Strategy and Spirit
Reece’s role is all about empowering the sales team to excel in delivering cybersecurity solutions. He describes it clearly: “My main responsibility as Sales Manager is to lead and manage the Sales Team to achieve and exceed sales targets – this involves ensuring the team have everything they need to succeed, as well as troubleshooting any issues they have along the way. My role also includes making strategic decisions and constantly reviewing the tools and processes we have in place.” It’s a dynamic job that mixes mentorship, problem-solving, and forward-thinking planning.
What does a day in his life look like? “A great thing about working in sales is that every day is different; some days things run smoothly, and some days involve a lot of problem-solving – but that’s fine, it keeps things interesting!” Reece shares. “I always check in with the team in the morning to see how they’re getting on and keep them in the loop with any company updates. I do try to keep things as social as possible, despite working remotely. When I have the time, I’m also researching ways for us to improve what we do.” From team catch-ups to refining processes, Reece keeps things lively and connected.
What drew him to SBT? It’s a story with a surprising start: “Funny story, this was actually only supposed to be temporary role. I went to Bournemouth Uni with Josh (SBT's CEO) and only joined the company on a three-month contract as he needed help with the sales side of things, and I was struggling to find a job during the pandemic. It’s crazy to think that back then there was only five of us working here, the company has grown so much! And the fact that three months turned into me staying for 3+ years really highlights how great it has been to work here.” From a short-term stint to a cornerstone role, Reece’s journey is a testament to the culture we've built at SBT.
When asked what he enjoys most, Reece shares: “Being able to sell something that I actually believe in. I think anyone who works in sales will agree that this is the dream. Aside from that, the people. Every department is full of people who love to chat and genuinely want to help if you need anything.” For Reece, it’s the mix of meaningful work and a supportive team that makes the job special.
Getting to Know Reece
Reece’s background is a blend of study and real-world hustle. “Aside from studying Cyber Security Management at University, I also spent a bit of time working as a Sales Executive at an IT Reseller,” he says. “I certainly wasn’t the most experienced salesperson when I joined SBT so there was a lot of on-the-job learning that really helped me to push myself to improve.” That willingness to learn and grow has shaped him into the leader he is today.
His ambitions for SBT and his career are big but grounded: “We’ve recently grown the sales team here at SBT, and my plan is to continue that growth. There’s so much potential here and we’ve only just scratched the surface. For my career? Much like when I joined SBT, I plan to invest my time and energy into developing my skills as a manager to ensure that I’m giving the best I can. Beyond that, I hope I can continue to grow with SBT.” It’s a vision that’s all about building the team and himself alongside SBT’s rise.
Outside work, Reece’s life is full of adventure and relaxation: “I love to travel – my girlfriend and I are constantly online and on social media looking for inspiration for our next trip. We have a few booked in this year! I always enjoy meeting friends for a drink or two over the weekend. I’m a big film fan so I’m at the cinema quite a lot, and I also enjoy winding down watching TV shows or reading comics – I'm a bit of a nerd in that respect.” From jet-setting to comic book dives, Reece balances work with plenty of colour.
As for what he wanted to do as a kid? He chuckles, “I can’t really remember; I was never someone who knew what they wanted to do from a young age. It would be great if I could say something cool like an astronaut or something like that but knowing me, I probably wanted to be a Power Ranger.”
